The short version
Saver is a free study site. It keeps only what it needs to run your account and track your progress. It doesn't store your email address, can't read your password, and has no ads or trackers. Your data is never sold.
What Saver stores
If you create an account
- Display name. It appears on course leaderboards. You can change it or hide yourself from leaderboards in Settings.
- Username. Stored only as a one-way scrambled code (a keyed hash), so even the database doesn't contain the name you type to log in.
- Password. Stored only as a slow, salted hash (scrypt). Nobody, including the site owner, can see or recover it.
If you sign in with Google or GitHub
- Saver asks only for your basic profile. It keeps a scrambled version of your account ID so it can recognize you next time, and uses your name as your starting display name. It does not get your email, contacts, files or repositories.
Your studying
- Your answers, points, streaks, achievements and progress, plus your time zone (so streaks follow your local day).
Technical information
- Like most websites, the server records IP addresses and the pages requested. These logs are used only to keep the site secure, stop abuse (for example, limiting repeated login attempts) and fix problems, and they're kept for a limited time.
What stays on your device
- Whiteboard drawings are saved in your browser only and are never sent to Saver. On a shared computer, you can clear them in Settings under “Whiteboard scratch work.”
- Small display preferences, like the light/dark theme and dismissed notices.
- One cookie, used only to keep you logged in (for up to 30 days, or until you log out). There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
What Saver doesn't do
- No ads, no analytics services and no third-party trackers.
- Your information is never sold or shared, except where the law requires it.
- Saver doesn't send marketing email (it doesn't have your email).
Where it's kept and how it's protected
Saver runs on a server hosted by Amazon Web Services in the United States. All traffic is encrypted (HTTPS), passwords and usernames are hashed, and logins are rate-limited. No system is perfectly secure, but Saver is built to keep as little as possible so there's little to lose.
Your choices
- Hide yourself from leaderboards or change your display name in Settings.
- Practice as a guest without an account. Guest answers aren't saved.
- To delete your account and all its progress, contact the site owner with your display name and it will be removed.
Children
Saver is meant for college and university students and isn't intended for anyone under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top will change too. Significant changes will be noted on the site.
